Science Education at the Crossroads

Welcome.

This space is an extension of the efforts of Science Education at the Crossroads. Although our physical gatherings are the best mode of interaction, this venue can extend some discussions and offer a place for some new ones.

On this site, you'll see multiple tools and ways to create your own page. In addition, there are forum and blog links above, places to begin discussions and document your own work. At the left or below you should also see a link for the RSS feed of these pages, so that you could "subscribe" to changes on these pages. Also, in your own settings you should be able to subscribe to updates to these pages via email notification.

forum change

Hi Everyone,We are in the process of moving this forum to our main website.  If you're reading this, you are currently a member of the Science Education at the Crossroads "Ning," a social network we've used to support some discussions and other interactions.  This has supported some modest usage, but now Ning is requiring a fee for this service.  We (John and I) have decided to only pay for one web based service -- our domain and server at sciedxroads.org.…See More

Hi Andy, I don't know what to think - even though I've been thinking about it for a long time. My short answer (at the moment) is that the changes we need to make are really systemic and yet acted on by individuals. For example, I am…

Sharon, I think that I'll be even less useful than John on this. What popped into my mind was what was already on my mind -- an example of "your work reminds me of my own work, let me tell you more about myself." I hate when people…

Dear Sharon, I am not aware of such a literature. However, what popped into my mind was the notion of "turning point" -- and there is a small amount of work in this area. I'm not sure how solid the foundations are for this work but…

Micro-steps and entry points

Hi all,I'm wondering if anyone knows of any literature that talks about ways in which a group of teachers finds an entry point, a foot hold if you will, to engage in a complex process of changing teaching, especially when the teaching they are trying to do is so different from what they've always done. Also, any references for the notion of a micro-step or micro-transformation? We're thinking of this as a baby step of change. Something that moves them forward from where they were, even if…See More
